PicoLO Premium is a second-generation picosecond laser developed by Laseroptek, a South Korean medical laser company that has been building and exporting advanced laser technology since 2000. The original PicoLO received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award at the 2019 Korea Technology Awards, and the Premium version advances on that platform with improved output stability and a more versatile handpiece system.

How It Works

Picosecond lasers fire energy in pulses far shorter than older nanosecond Q-switched lasers, creating a photoacoustic effect that shatters pigment particles through pressure rather than primarily through heat. This results in more thorough pigment fragmentation, less thermal spread to surrounding tissue, and faster recovery for most patients.

The PicoLO Premium operates at dual wavelengths of 1064nm and 532nm and is notable for its pulse consistency, maintaining an energy output standard deviation below 5% at 1064nm and below 2% at 532nm. In picosecond laser treatments, reliable pulse output matters because inconsistent energy delivery can reduce efficacy or produce uneven results.

The Dia FX Fractional Handpiece

One of the more clinically distinctive features of the PicoLO Premium is its Dia FX fractional 1064nm handpiece, which uses proprietary DOE (Diffractive Optical Element) technology to generate a uniform fractional grid pattern across the treatment area. It also offers three levels of depth adjustment, allowing energy to be directed to the superficial, mid, or deep dermis depending on the concern being treated. This three-depth capability is particularly useful for acne scar revision, where the depth of treatment needs to match the depth of the scar.

What It Treats

PicoLO Premium addresses pigmented lesions including sunspots, freckles, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is also used for atrophic acne scarring, enlarged pores, overall skin texture and tone, and tattoo removal across a range of ink colors.
