Scar/Scar Revision

Scars are marks on the skin that result from normal healing of wounds caused by accidents, diseases, or surgeries. The more damage that occurs to the skin and the longer it takes to heal, the greater the chance of an obvious scar. Typically, a scar may appear red and somewhat thick at first. Then it slowly fades to light pink or white. Scars may end up raised or depressed (below the skin surface) and darker/lighter than the skin around them. Too much inflammation (redness and swollenness) during healing may lead to hypertrophic scars or keloids. Hypertrophic scars are large, raised scars that form from excess scar tissue. Keloids are tough, irregular shaped raised scars that grow larger than the size of the initial wound. Keloids are more common in people with darker skin types. Scars may be treated with a variety of topical medications, surgically or with lasers.

Botox

Dysport, Xeomin

A combination of factors can cause facial lines. It’s not just about the cellular changes that may occur, or reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment. Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a treatment that works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults.

Filler

For volume, plumping, smoothing

Wrinkles and lines aren’t the only signs of aging. Over time, the cheeks flatten, and the skin may begin to sag. This is caused by a natural loss of volume in the cheek area, or what the experts call age-related midface volume loss. Parentheses lines are static lines that appear when your face is at rest. This happens over time as your skin loses some of the building blocks (hyaluronic acid and collagen) that give the skin its structure. Different fillers are approved to either lift cheeks, smooth parentheses lines, smooth vertical lip lines or plump the lips. The results are subtle and long lasting.

Kybella

KYBELLA®  is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” The active ingredient in KYBELLA®  is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA ®  destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal. It is administered as a series of injections to the treatment area under the chin, destroying fat cells and producing gradual results.

Micro-needling

Micro-needling is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the skin triggering a release of natural growth factors, new collagen & elastin.  It is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s appearance. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. Micro-needling also creates superficial micro-channels, which allow topical serums and creams to be absorbed more effectively into the skin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with the appearance of softer wrinkles.

Chemical peels

A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve your skin’s appearance. A chemical solution is applied to skin, causing the top layers of skin to flake or peel away. This reveals new skin that is smoother, appears less wrinkled and may be more even in color. A chemical peel can reduce the appearance of fine lines, especially under the eyes and around the mouth; treat acne and melasma; even skin tone, especially if you have sun damage, age spots, freckles, or blotchiness; and brighten a dull complexion and smooth rough-feeling skin.

Facial Skin Rejuvenation

As skin ages it becomes thinner and less elastic because collagen and elastin, the tissue that keep the skin firm, become weaker. These changes lead to fine lines, sagging skin, and other unwanted signs of aging. Facial rejuvenation can effectively reduce wrinkles, treat sun spots, tighten loose skin, improve skin tone and color, remove blotchiness and eliminate damaged blood vessels. Treatment options for facial skin rejuvenation typically involve lasers. Some of the featured lasers in our office include:

VBeam Prima

Vbeam uses Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) technology to deliver an intense but gentle burst of light into targeted areas of the skin. The light is absorbed by the blood vessels or melanin pigmented areas, safely treating many different conditions. VBeam effectively removes discolorations, including rosacea, sunspots, age spots, freckles, as well as other vascular and pigmentation abnormalities such as poikiloderma, port wine stains, facial veins, and leg veins. Vbeam is also clinically proven to treat scars and stretch marks.

Fraxel® DUAL 1550/1927 resurfacing treatments effectively target both the surface and deeper layers of the skin for a smoother, fresher, younger looking appearance. This results in improved tone and texture of the skin, reduced wrinkles around the eye area, erasing of unwanted brown spots and improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars. Fraxel DUAL Laser has the unique advantage of two treatment modes:

1550: penetrates deep into the skin layers, specifically targeting concerns such as wrinkles or acne scarring

1927: effectively targets tone, texture, and other more superficial signs of aging

PicoWay Laser

PicoWay uses an innovative 3 wavelength picosecond laser with both full-beam and fractional capabilities. The unique mode of action is based on delivering ultra-short picosecond pulses of energy to the tissue. These bursts of energy create a photoacoustic impact which breaks up the target pigment into smaller, more easily eliminated particles. This laser can treat various pigmented lesions, all tattoo colors & types as well as acne scars and wrinkles.

Laser Hair Reduction/ Removal

Unwanted hair is a concern for many people. If unwanted hair concerns you, you may want to consider laser hair reduction/removal (LHR). A laser sends beams of light through the skin. The heat from the laser is absorbed by the color in the hair and destroys the hair follicle, the area through which hair grows. Since hair grows in cycles, repeated treatments are necessary to destroy all the hair follicles. After each treatment, you can expect a 10% to 25% decrease in hair growth. With repeat treatments, it is possible to destroy about 80% of the hairs. Any new hairs tend to grow lighter and finer.

Spider Vein / Varicose Vein Treatment

Spider veins are blood vessels that lie near the surface of the skin and range in color from red to blue to purple. Commonly occurring on the legs, spider veins also develop on the face and other areas of the body. Some look like short, unconnected lines about the size of a hair, others form a “sunburst” pattern that may resemble a spider web or branches on a tree.

Varicose Veins are veins that have become enlarged or swollen. They commonly develop in the legs and feet, but can occur on any part of the body. Often varicose veins rise above the surface of the skin and have a tell-tale knotted appearance. Some are flesh-colored, others are blue, green, or dark purple. Sometimes varicose veins appear together with spider veins.

Sclerotherapy is the most popular treatment option for veins on the legs. Sclerotherapy involves injecting small doses of a solution directly into the unwanted vein with a very fine needle. The solution irritates the vein, causing it the swell, stick together and the blood to clot. This essentially seals off the treated vein from other veins. Over time, the treated vein turns into scar tissue that is then absorbed by the body.
